  • Install Smoke Alarms: Ensure that you have smoke alarms installed on every level of your home, including inside each bedroom, and outside sleeping areas. Test them regularly and replace the batteries at least once a year.

  • Create an Escape Plan: Develop a fire escape plan for your family and practice it regularly. Make sure everyone knows the safest routes out of the house and designate a meeting point outside.

  • Check Electrical Cords: Inspect electrical cords for fraying or damage and replace any that are worn out. Avoid overloading outlets and use surge protectors for multiple devices.

  • Practice Safe Cooking: Never leave cooking unattended and keep flammable items away from the stove. Keep a fire extinguisher in or near the kitchen and know how to use it.

  • Be Cautious with Heaters: If you use space heaters, keep them at least three feet away from flammable materials and turn them off when you leave the room or go to bed. Ensure that all heaters are in good working condition.
